Disney is missing a lot of representation, that’s an undeniable fact. A black male hero is something they’ve been lacking for a long time, there are very scarce positive black male role models for little black boys to look up to in the media and it’s time to change that. Growing up I never saw anyone who looked like me save for Dr. Sweet from Atlantis, then when the “first black Disney princess movie” came out, Disney completely dropped the ball, instead of making the prince a black man, they made him an ethnically ambiguous Brazilian knockoff, and that hurt. It basically was saying there’s no room for a black Disney couple, and there’s no place for a black Disney prince/hero, because black men are villains.
Now if Disney decided to make a gay black male Disney prince/hero who was a well-rounded and central character of the movie , I’d be even more impressed and happy about that than if he were just a black male hero. Here’s hoping for one day!
